Grunge opened the doors for alternative rock to mainstream audiences, though not always. Helmet must be one of the most underrated bands of the last 20 years. With their massive riffs, dark militaristic drums and barking vocals, Helmet created metal for those who don't like metal. Stripped to the bare essence-metal if you like, with, once in a while, jazzy parts, funky grasps or cutting blues.
